Swatch Out! Our 2017 Color Trend Forecast

Wednesday July 27, 2016

Every year I look forward to September. Not only because fall is my favorite season of the year, but because it is the height of wedding season, kicks off the beginning of fashion week, and reminds me that holiday season is just around the corner. So it’s no surprise that Pantone picks this month every year to release their upcoming color of the year forecast. In the party business, we have the unique job of planning events, oftentimes, 1 -2 years in advance. So helping people choose a color scheme for their event means we need to know, not only what is hot now, but what will be on (or ahead of) trend when their event takes place.  So how do we predict the upcoming color trends? I’d like to say it’s our super human psychic ability, but truthfully, history is our best indicator. Just like history, trends tend to be cyclical. Color isn’t new, what is new is how we use it with the other things that are important to us.  So what colors made a big splash in 2016?

Champagne

Ivory

Blush

One of these three beauties were seen in 2 out of 3 weddings we did this year. These muted colors not only look great with every skin color, but complement any color you accent with it. We don’t see this going away in 2017 either. Rather, we expect to expand on this trend with a more earthy color palette and some deeper hues.  What we will continue to love in 2017:

Cornsilk

Oyster

Dusty Rose

Not feeling warm tones, no worry. We predict that these cool hues will make a comeback too:

The muted palette is here to stay in 2017, but not everyone wants to “fade” in. Here’s a few colors that we predict will make their cameo this year and provide a much appreciated punch of color:

Plum

Fiesta

Lime

Whether you add a bold accent or make a statement with these fun colors, we are sure to see some interesting combinations of in 2017 that are sure to make history.
